Detroit is known for being a fashion forward city, and there’s a local apparel and shoe company keeping with this tradition while selling shoes that were designed in Detroit.
Negash Apparel & Footwear features a variety of shoe styles with different colors and designs. Zeek Williams, head of marketing and community relations, said Negash aims to put out a product that keeps royalty at its helm. Williams said the word “Negash” actually means “heir to the throne.” The inspiration behind the brand is also shown in the names of the footwear. Negash sells a heel design called “Hathor,” which is named after a goodness of love and beauty. There are also sneakers named after an Egyptian Pharaoh called Narmer.
All of Negash’s shoes are designed in Detroit. Williams said this was important to him because he wanted to give kids an understanding that you don’t have to leave Detroit to be great and that you can build and develop things in the city. The company is also helping the community by giving out pairs of shoes. Williams said they plan to give out more shoes this summer.
