Flowers, cards, and plenty of sweets are going to be flying off the shelves for Mother’s Day this Sunday, and getting mom some fresh made pastries is a great way to share your appreciation.
Astoria pastry shop in Greektown is offering up hundreds of fresh European desserts fit for a queen. Owner Tasso Teftsis joined Michelle Oliver to chat about the shop, and what they offer.
Tasso said the was bakery started in 1971 by his parents, and he has been working there since he was 11 years old. Now he is the owner, and offers a wide assortment of pastries from cheesecakes, cookies, and balaclava, to pie, bread, and cannoli’s.
Because Mother’s Day falls in line with Strawberry season, he recommends treating her to a strawberry shortcake.
He also said one of his favorite things to do for his wife on Mother’s Day is make French toast out of Astoria’s egg-bread, which is sweet, eggy, and perfect for breakfast in bed.
While you chow down on some delicious treats, you can sip on some fresh gourmet coffee that the bakery has in store.
