This weekend, there is a food throwdown that might be right up your alley. It is called “Burger Battle Detroit” at Eastern Market where more than 15 local chefs will compete to be crowned the burger champion.
The reigning champions who are coming back to defend their trophy, Rob and Michelle Haskell, the owners of Kozy Lounge, joined “Live In the D” with host Jason Carr to share more information about the burger battle.
Michelle says that anyone can go to “Burger Battle Detroit.” She suggests getting tickets ahead of time, and the event is “all you can eat.” When you first come in, you’ll get a ticket voucher that you can use to vote for your favorite burger. The top three votes will then go to a panel of judges, and our resident foodie, Michelle Oliver, will be one of them.
Rob made a six-ounce patty by hand and added jalapeños, bacon, and fresh, locally grown honey to the bottom of the bun. But, he didn’t say whether or not it was the burger that would be served during the contest. When asked how to make sure burgers stay together at home, he said the key is to make sure the bun is crisp because that keeps the flavors in.
If you want to try one of their award winning burgers, the address for Kozy Lounge is 150 E. 10 Mile Rd., Hazel Park, MI 48030.
