Lots happening around the D Labor Day weekend

Jazz, art, and food celebrations in several communities

Well the unofficial end of summer Labor Day weekend is here, so that means we need to get out and have some fun! There’s plenty of events happening in just about every community in Metro Detroit. Of course there are the big events, Arts, Beats and Eats in Royal Oak, The Michigan State Fair in Novi and The Detroit International Jazz Festival in Downtown Detroit, but there are a lot of smaller events happening as well.

Starting with the Saline Community Fair, the event features a midway with carnival rides, food, kids activities and more. The fair is going on now through Labor Day at the Saline Fairgrounds.

If you’re in the mood for some jazz, check out the John E. Lawrence Summer Jazz Concert in Ypsilanti. Tonight is the final performance for the free jazz series and features Grammy-Award winning keyboardist Jeff Lorber Fusion. The concert starts at 7pm at Ford Lake Park.

Now over to Algonac for the Algonac Art Fair. The fair will feature live music, food, artists displaying their work and more. On Saturday will be the “Rumble on the Riverfront” car show featuring classic rides. The fair is happening Saturday and Sunday at Algonac City Park on the banks of the beautiful St. Clair River.

Lastly, the Brightmoor Music Series is coming to an end. Tuesday September 6 will be the last day of the series, that brought music and fun to the west side neighborhood. The final event will feature live music, 12 local food trucks including the original Dot and Etta’s Shrimp Hut. The Brightmoor Music Series and Burgess Street Food Fest are happening from 1pm-8pm at Etheldra Mae Williams Park.
