What is extended family? Can friends be family? Are grandparents always the favorite? Jason Hall, with RiDetroit, Vanesa Cohen, co-founder of The Cohen Brand and owner of Motor City Date night, and Lauren Crocker, co-host of The Blaine Fowler Morning Show on 96.3 WDVD, joined Jason Carr on “Live In The D” to discuss these questions and the importance of National Family Day.
According to Cohen and Crocker, extended family is anyone who isn’t apart of your immediate family. Hall said he has a different definition of extended family because of how he grew up.
“I grew up kind of close to my cousins, and so I would say, for me personally, any compound name like “great-uncle” or anything like that, “second-cousin”, that’s extended.”
When if comes to friends and family, according to Crocker, its possible to have friends that are considered family.
“I have friends that have been with me for thirty years, they are family. Those are the people I count on just as much as my blood family, so I definitely believe in friends that are family,” Crocker said.
