What can you expect when the Detroit Grand Prix moves downtown?

IndyCar driver Will Power talks about the new race track

The schedule for the 2023 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is out, and there is a lot that’s planned as the race returns to the streets of downtown Detroit next year. Racers will start their engines and hit the gas pedals on June 4th of 2023.

Will Power, the winner of the 2022 IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix, appeared on “Live In The D” to talk about the excitement surrounding the race and its move downtown. Power is also the reigning IndyCar Series champion and the 2018 Indy 500 winner. He’s had 68 career IndyCar Series pole positions, which ranks him number one of all-time surpassing the legendary Mario Andretti.

The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix will be a week after the Indianapolis 500, so Power says there will be a lot of momentum heading into the race. The driver also mentioned he already drove the new track to check it out, and he thinks it will race even better than Belle Isle. However, Power asked how they could top the tradition of the winner of the race jumping into the fountain at Belle Isle, but he thinks organizers will come up with something to help the winner celebrate.

Watch the video above to hear Power talk more about the race, along with one of his hobbies off the race track.
