If you’re like most people, you and your loved ones will be looking forward to dessert after a nice holiday meal.
Many families have their go-to desserts for special occasions, but holiday celebrations may be made even more memorable and delicious with a sweet twist on a classic dessert.
Dolores Jackson, owner of D-Los Delightful Gourmet Cheesecake, joined co-host Jason Carr on “Live in the D” to discuss the sweet treats.
According to Jackson, she did not eat cheesecake as a child and did not try it until she was in her twenties, when she learned it was a commercial product. In December of 2019, she decided to try her hand at no-bake cheesecake from scratch in her quest for a better cheesecake, which was a total flop. In the same month, General Motors offered her a retirement package; she had been with the company for 35 years but had no savings. She says that a week later, the mother of one of her best friends sent her a recipe for banana pudding cheesecake. She made it, distributed it, and received a few orders. Then, a week later, she says, she was given nine more flavors, and D-Lo’s was born.
The owner says she has 18 flavors, such as strawberry drizzle, banana pudding, chocolate banana with Oreo crust, red velvet, strawberry shortcake, key lime creme supreme, apple cinnamon crunch, key lime, blueberry, cookies and cream, lemon cookie supreme, creme supreme, pumpkin spice, and more.
The company’s motto, according to Jackson, is “We bake with love.” She says that this means she personally oversees the baking of all her cheesecakes in the kitchen. She emphasized how she makes sure they take the same amount and are creamy every time, and how she is a stickler for presentation.
D’Lo’s Delightful Gourmet Cheesecake can be purchased at Meijer Rivertown Market, 1475 E. Jefferson, Detroit, MI, and Fresh Thyme, 23300 Farmington Rd., Farmington, MI.
