Classic band performs on Detroit’s historic stage

“America” returns Friday to the D

They’ve been together more than 50 years and rock band “America” has an upcoming concert in Detroit. Ahead of the show, “Live in the D’s” Tati Amare caught up with one of the founding members, Dewey Bunnell, who spoke about performing in Detroit.

”We’ve played in Detroit for years and years, decades... It’s a city that’s prominent in our touring... It’s a great stop on the road,” Bunnell said.

He says music has changed over the decades with the digital revolution, but his group remains the same with writing, recording, and performing songs live. He also says vocal harmonies are big for them.

Bunnell also discussed their hit “You Can Do Magic” and the impact the song had on the group. The band will play this, and all their music, live Friday, July 14. The show is presented by Hollywood Casino at Greektown on the Music Hall’s historic stage.
