2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, and here’s a unique way you can celebrate. You can laugh and listen to some beats at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak thanks to “Hip-Prov”. The concept is all about combining improvisation and Hip-Hop into a hilarious show. Tam White is the creator of the show and joined “Live In The D” host Tati Amare and guest-host AJ Williams on the show to tell them about it.
White says the idea started during the pandemic shutdown when she found a way to livestream a game show. “I combined Hip-Hop and improv and called it ‘Hip-Prov’. Improv with a dash of Hip-Hop. It’s a lot of the improv games you see people play, with beatboxing, freestyle rap, or maybe Hip-Hop trivia,” said White.
She had Tati and AJ give it a try with assistance from beatboxer Stevie Soul. To see how they did, and to learn more about the “Hip-Prov” show happening next week, click the video player above.
