Anna Chrisman with Michigan Humane appeared on “Live In The D” to share suggestions for pet parents during Pet Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed in November.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, approximately one in four cats and dogs will develop cancer at some point in their life. Chrisman explained that genetics play a significant role in whether a pet will develop cancer. However, there are steps you can take to help reduce the risk of your pet developing cancer, such as having them maintain a healthy weight, keeping up with yearly physicals, minimizing exposure to chemicals and toxins, and spaying or neutering pets.
