Takeoff with this luggage that made it on Oprah’s list of her favorite things

What makes Takeoff Luggage unique is that you can take off the wheels

We’re once again talking about one of the most anticipated shopping lists that comes out this time of year because there is yet another Metro Detroit business that landed a coveted spot on Oprah’s Favorite Things.

Takeoff Luggage landed a spot on the coveted list, launching the small business into the national spotlight. Owner Stephen Davis joined “Live in the D” host Tati Amare and guest-host Jon Jordan to talk about how his business got on the list and what has changed since then.

He says Oprah’s team called him to let him know Takeoff Luggage was being considered for the list, and when they were doing an interview with him over Zoom, Oprah herself popped on to talk with him.

“I’m smiling now - I was smiling 10 times harder [then],” says Davis.

What makes Takeoff Luggage unique is that you can take off the wheels, turning the suitcase that would have been an expensive carry-on into a free personal item. Davis says he came up with the idea when he was taking a flight from Detroit to Phoenix and his $40 flight had a $100 carry-on baggage fee.
