You don’t have to go far to find snow this winter

The chair lift and ski hills are ready to welcome you in Michigan

The dusting of winter snow we had this week isn’t typical for a Michigan winter. By now, we’re used to seeing several inches of snow and breaking out the snow shovel at least once. Skiing or tubing doesn’t even seem like an option when you look out windows right now in the Detroit area, but just head a little north in Michigan and all that changes.

At Shanty Creek Resort, Director of Snow Sport Steve Kershner says they 25 inches of natural snow which means the ski hills are open. On top of the natural snow they are also making snow to make sure the hills are groomed perfectly for visitors.

“Schuss Mountain, our ski area, has two different villages, one on the front side and one on the back side. Each one has their own hotels, food and beverage outlets, and places to get your rental rental skis,” said Kershner.

For those who may be new to skiing there are also lessons available to help introduce beginners to the slopes. “We do group lessons for kids where we group kids 5 to 12 years old in similar abilities and similar age groups,” said Kershner. “And we do private lessons where one instructor will go out with you and work specifically on your needs.”

In addition to skiing they also have a family friendly hill for tubing that anyone, any age can enjoy.

Plus, there’s even a special way you can ski with Santa on the slopes. To see how that’s done, click the video player.
