Catch these holiday lights before they dim

Light fests, holiday fun, and much more happening this weekend in Metro Detroit

Holiday celebrations are in high gear, for some the season is winding down, and Kwanza celebrations will kick off soon. As Christmas nears, there’s a big light fest that will soon dim. “The Wayne County Light Fest,” that features over 100,000 lights, and animated displays, will end on Sunday December 24. The fest takes place in Westland.

If you’re looking to catch some lights for a little while longer, head over and drive-thru the “Magic of Lights” event happening in Clarkston. The fest features thousands of lights throughout the Pine Knob parking lot. It’s happening now through December 30.

The first ever “Holiday in Greektown” ice carving event happens this weekend. There will be 14 ice carving displays along Monroe St. showcasing live demos. There will also be caroling and other festive activities. The event takes place Saturday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., between Randolph and St. Antoine Street.

The Motor City Kwanzaa Kinara returns to Campus Martius. The 30-foot high monument will stand tall following a Kwanzaa celebration at Cadillac Square. The festivities happen December 26, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the Kinara will remain on display through January 1.
