A big weekend for new movies in theaters

Highly anticipated films are finally hitting the big screen

Every year the Christmas holiday means you can expect some big movies to premiere in theaters and this year is no exception. Some of them have already been nominated for awards, The Golden Globes, and some of them are expected to be Oscar contenders in many categories. Movie reviewer Greg Russell joined “Live In The D” host Tati Amare and guest-host Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan to share about everything coming out.

Russell said perhaps the mostly highly anticipated movie coming out is “The Color Purple”. This is from producers Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, and Quincy Jones. It stars and all-star ensemble cast and re-imagines the musical which first came out as a movie in 1985. Greg had a chance to talk with Taraji P. Henson, Fantasia Barrino, and Danielle Brooks about the movie and the passion behind it.

Russell also shared his interview with the stars who lend their voices to the new animated film “Migration”. This comes from the same studio behind “Despicable Me”. Elizabeth Banks, Kumail Nanjiani, Awkwafina, and Detroit native Keegan-Michael Key all worked on the film which follows a family of mallards who decide to migrate to Jamaica for the winter. Russell said the movie is a fun watch, and he talked to Key about he’s character’s connection to Detroit.
