In 2024, I hope to grow more as a person and bring the best of the best that our great city has to offer to all of you -- and to myself. I look forward to sharing more wonderful stories, meeting more resilient Detroiters, and checking out the hottest events and local businesses in our area. I hope to get to know our community on a deeper level, and especially learn more about those who haven’t had their chance to be in the spotlight.

Amid the uncertainties that life inevitably brings to all of us, the entire “Live In The D” team will continue to strive to keep being a beacon of light that you can always depend on. May all your hopes and dreams come true in 2024!

Here’s what we’re talking about today

✈️ Where do you want to travel to in 2024? One area of Michigan was included on CNN’s top places to visit in the new year.

🧀 If you’re like me, you know that cheese makes everything better (like how bacon does), and two Michigan cheesemakers are celebrating big wins at a major “cheesy” competition.

Start the year fresh

🍊 It’s likely one of the most common New Year’s resolutions: eating healthier. That can mean a lot of different things depending on your current diet. But, one thing is for certain, adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet is always a good thing. At one restaurant in Detroit, it’s all about helping you get your daily intake with a variety of fresh juices pressed daily. Fresh Rootz joined us in studio and shared some of their drinks and healthier food options.

In case you missed it

"Extended Family" on NBC (Copyright 2024 by WDIV ClickOnDetroit - All rights reserved.)

📺 What did they say about Jon Cryer? He’s a two-time Emmy Award-winning actor that is back on screen in a new NBC sitcom. Fans remember Jon Cryer from the hit show “Two and a Half Men,” and the movie “Pretty In Pink.” Now he’s playing the role of a divorced father in the new show “Extended Family.” The dynamics of this new TV family are quite different, but the actors are clearly having fun, as you can see by their interview with Tati.

🤩 Who else is coming back? “Night Court” was a hit in the 1980′s, and it’s back once again. The “new-boot” (opposed to reboot) brings back a familiar face with John Larroquette reprising the roll of Dan Fielding. We caught up with the actor to talk about the second season of the new series, and the other familiar face that will be joining the cast for a little while. Larroquette also talked about how the new show pays tribute to the old one.

From our sponsors and partners

Fairmont Senior Living Centers in Northville and Farmington Hills (Copyright 2024 by WDIV ClickOnDetroit - All rights reserved.)

🏠 As our loved ones get older, it’s hard to determine when they could benefit from making a move to a senior living center. You don’t want to offend anyone by having the conversation too early, but there are some things you can look for. Our sponsor Fairmont Senior Living in Northville and Fairmont Senior Living in Farmington Hills walk through some of the things you may notice. They also shared what they offer that could help make life easier for your aging loved one.

🌞 It may be winter, but how about looking ahead to summer? Summer camp is a staple for kids, and our sponsor YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit offers various camps throughout the season. Did you know you can help a child attend one of their camps by donating to the Y? Or, you can also support any of their programs, like swim lessons or day camps, by donating directly to them. Here’s how it’s done.

Just for fun

😂 Anyone who is a pet parent to both a cat and a dog knows that the animals can live together in harmony. And, sometimes, they can even start to act like each other -- especially when a puppy is around a much older cat, and grows up learning how to be a kitty instead of a canine.
