A popular New Year’s resolution is to get organized, but it’s a task that can be easier said than done.
Michaele Tocco, a professional organizer and the owner of Michaele’s Precise Planning, stopped by the “Live In The D” studio to share some advice for getting organized.
One of the major problems is that people can try to take on everything all at once, explained Tocco. Instead, she suggests starting small and tackling the spots that are most commonly cluttered in your home. She said to try to go one room at a time or one space at a time.
To start your day off on the right foot, Tocco recommends picking your outfit out the night before and hanging it up so that it’s ready for you in the morning. She suggests doing this for both kids and adults.
Another idea Tocoo shared is using a family calendar to help coordinate with one another. Color coding the calendar can also be helpful.
You can avoid letting clutter build up in your home by putting a basket at the bottom of your steps. Tocco explained that you can set items in the basket throughout the day. Then, at the end of the night, you can do a quick 10 minute cleanup to put everything away and avoid letting the clutter building up.
It’s also time to say goodbye to the “junk drawer.” Instead, Tocco said you should have a “multi-purpose” drawer where everyone can find what they need easily. She suggests purchasing a drawer organizer that divides different sections of the drawer.
