We can all feel those subzero wind chills the minute we step outside the door. Now, imagine walking outside in bare feet and a light coat. That’s exactly how our pets brave these conditions even if they are outside for just a short amount of time. So, what should you think about before opening the door? AnnMarie Chamberlain with Michigan Humane joined “Live In The D” host Tati Amare, and guest-host Aaron “Goose” Seller, radio host on 102.9 W4 country, to give some advice.
Chamberlain says:
- If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pet. Limit their time outside and keep them indoors.
- Keep your pets coat longer to provide and extra layer of warmth.
- Protect your pet’s paws with paw wax or booties.
- Make sure you dry off your pet’s entire body after time outside. This will help them get warmer faster.
- Feed your pet a few more calories in the winter months to give them a healthy weight to stay warmer in winter.
- Have a cozy spot for them to sleep on inside because it will provide more warmth.
Chamberlain also brought in a pet that needs a new home. A black cat named Peppermint Bark. Our sponsor The Mike Morse Law Firm will pay the standard adoption fee for whoever adopts Peppermint Bark.
