When it comes to wine, there is a lot to know. The grapes, the region, the color, the tannins and more, it’s a lot to think about when it comes to the taste of what you’re drinking at home. Johnny Prep, owner and executive chef of Alchemi and Johnny’s Speakeasy in Royal Oak, spoke to “Live In The D” host Tati Amare and guest-host Aaron “Goose” Seller, radio host with 102.9 W4 Country, about how you can have a smoother tasting wine at home.
“I just passed my Level 3 sommelier exam through the Wine & Spirit Education Trust,” said Prep. He said it took 200 hours of studying and tasting, and he traveled Bordeaux to learn about wine.
When it comes to how you drink wine at home, Prep walked through how opening a bottle changes the wine experience. He shared with the hosts how the same wine, opened at three different times, will taste different due to the tannins in the wine oxidizing.
Prep also spoke about how he wants to help people experience a broader world selection of wine at his establishments. To hear more about that, and hear what Prep said when it comes to pairing wine and food, click the video player above.
