The Lions are officially out of the playoffs, but it wasn’t without a season that many fans have dreamed about, including two playoff game victories and a near win in the NFC Championship game.
To talk about the success of the season, Theo “Gridiron” Spight, a Detroit singer who performs the Lions’ fight song at Ford Field, and Blaine Fowler from “Blaine and Lauren” on 96.3 WDVD joined host Tati Amare and guest host Aaron Seller on “Live In The D”.
The conversation started with the group talking about whether it was even more heart breaking of a loss because the Lions were so close to making it to the Super Bowl and even had a 17-point lead over the San Francisco 49ers at one point during the NFC Championship game. The Lions ended up losing to San Francisco 31 to 34.
“We didn’t get beat. We lost the game,” Aaron said.
Meanwhile, Blaine said “Let’s give credit to the 49ers. They did play well when they needed to.” He did go on to say, “We shot ourselves in the foot.”
Despite losing in the NFC Championship game, it was an incredible run for the lions. The group talked about their favorite moments of the game and season.
“I was just happy that they were there. It’s been a long time coming,” Theo said. “Just the whole excitement of it. The whole game was a lot of ‘pinch me moments’ - like man I can’t believe we’re here.”
“This team has personified this town like no team that I can remember in a long, long time across any sport. I think they’ve done it really well,” Blaine said. “The whole thing about ‘grit’, it’s not just a brand, it is a thing. It’s real, and they play with grit,” he added.
Blaine said he saw so much improvement this year that he has faith that the Lions are going to be back there again.
