You don’t have to be in Louisiana to get a taste of the flavors of Mardi Gras. Louisiana Creole Gumbo is a Detroit restaurant that features authentic New Orleans-style dishes like gumbo and jambalaya.
Louisiana Creole Gumbo has been feeding the Detroit community for more than fifty years. The food is made with the original recipes from the original owner, so the recipes are more than 100 years old, explained Stephanie Spencer, the Vice President of Marketing for Louisiana Creole Gumbo. She said the original owner learned to cook at the knee of his mother and grandmother. “We just took what he did and are continuing on that legacy,” Spencer said.
Louisiana Creole Gumbo’s featured Mardi Gras dish is called Dirty Jambalaya. Spencer calls it a “customer shoutout” because it’s two things that customers adore. It’s red beans and rice with their jambalaya, cream sauce, parsley, and onion. Other items on their menu include seafood creole, seafood gumbo, baked chicken dinner, and more.
Louisiana Creole Gumbo has two locations in Detroit and one in Farmington Hills. Watch the video above for more information about Louisiana Creole Gumbo and its history.
