Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan goes beyond cookies

Organization aims to help girls have courage, confidence and character

When you think of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, delicious boxes of cookies might come to mind. However, the organization offers so much more to the community.

The mission of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan is “building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place,” said Monica Woodson, the CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan. She explained the goal is to go even further and help girls envision themselves in a space that goes beyond what they and society believe is possible.

The Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan allows girls to enjoy experiences they may not be exposed to if it were not for the Girl Scouts, Woodson said. Girl Scouts have the opportunity to learn about robotics, fly drones, learn to advocate for themselves and their communities, learn life skills, and beyond.

According to Woodson, Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan has nearly 21,000 members, including 13,600 girls and 7,100 adult members.
