With the warmer than usual winter we’ve had in Southeast Michigan, you may be looking forward to spring outside. It doesn’t matter if you’re an adult or a child, the nice weather is great for everyone. The YMCA has a couple of programs that can keep kids healthy, and get them out in nature.
The Regional Director of “Girls on the Run,” and “Stride,” of greater Detroit, Kate Lynch, stopped by “Live in the D,” to chat about the programs. “The ”Girls on the Run,” program is for girls in 3rd to 8th grade that uses running and physical activity as a way to teach life lessons, according to Lynch.
Each season lasts 10 weeks, and the girls meet twice a week for an 1 hour and 20 minutes. They will learn how to set and achieve goals, how to stand up for others, and themselves, and how to understand and process their emotions, Lynch explained.
The “Stride” program operates the same way, but it is for boys. Registration for the programs are now open, and will remain open until March 15, or until the teams are full.
