This Florida destination has a bit of everything

Have you ever seen the sunset on the ocean?

It’s that time of year when vacation planning is underway. Spring Break isn’t far off for high schoolers and summer vacation will be here before you know it.

So, how does a trip to a destination with gorgeous sunsets, miles of shoreline, a vibrant dining scene, and family entertainment sound? You can discover Fort Myers’ islands, beaches, and neighborhoods to experience it all. Communications manager Miriam Dotson appeared on “Live In The D” to share what a trip to Ft. Myers entails.

“It’s on the Gulf Coast in southwest Florida,” Dotson said. “It’s about a two hour drive west of Miami.” Being on the west side of the state means gorgeous sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. There are also 100 different islands in the region, so you can go island hopping and explore new places during a stay in the area.

Dotson also spoke about some of the family-friendly things you can do in town, such as kayaking at Riverside Park where she appeared alongside the Estero River. She mentioned Lakes Park, the Edison & Ford Winter Estates, and the Mound House on Fort Myers Beach, which pays homage to the Calusa.

As a native of Fort Myers, Dotson also shared some insider tips for visitors.

  1. Enjoy a boat trip and sit towards the back of the boat. You may see dolphins and if you clap it’s one way to interact with them.
  2. See the sunset on the beach after a nice spa day, and she suggested a beach-side sunset dinner.
  3. For couples, she suggests visiting Lover’s Cove.
  4. Plan a day to wake up early because you can see a lot of wildlife in the area shortly after sunshine.
