Give to the ‘Y’ and make a difference

Even if you aren’t a member there’s still a way you can help

The YMCA is an organization that everyone is familiar with by name, and thousands of people are members of this organization that provides all kinds of services for our community. One very big service they provide is “LiveStrong,” a program Meg Wyman said benefited her after battling cancer.

“LiveStrong is a free 12 week program that’s designed to allow cancer survivors to reclaim their health,” Wyman told “Live in the D” host Tati Amare during a recent appearance.

The program she said is designed for cancer survivors to build strength, and focuses on strength, balance, and flexibility, and is not only fun, but encouraging.

Accompanying her on the show was Susan Walters-Klenke, the Fund Development Director with the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, who spoke about the other programs the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit offers. She said they offer free water safety lessons, free nutritional meals, financial assistance to summer camps, and 3 free month memberships in LiveStrong program, and much more.

Walters-Klenke said this is all made possible by the donations they receive. “We raise funds to do the life changing impact “Y” programs provide to our communities,” she said.

Everyone can help out with the cause by donating on March 5 to the YMCA on their “Day of Giving.”
