When you walk into the Whimsy and Wine store located in Fraser, you feel as though you’ve walked into a treasure trove of unique items. Owner Michelle Gebhard says that’s the point.
“We just try to have a good mix of things that people would look for, for themselves or for gifts,” Gebhard said.
All the items in her store are made by and come from small Michigan businesses that are all owned by women, except for one. And there’s plenty to choose from like candles, food items, home decor, sports apparel and more.
Gebhard, being a maker herself, said it’s important that she supports other small businesses and give people in the community a place to display the products they invest time and effort into creating. Wendy Unger, a jewelry maker from Berkley, said “I’m very proud of my work, and being here that’s a huge deal.”
Of course when people come in they have the opportunity to purchase the items, but they can also become a maker themselves, and create their own one-of-a-kind piece of art. Gebhard offers DIY classes and teaches participants how to create home décor items from wood cut outs.
