The homes along West Grand Blvd in Detroit have always had charm and character, but the decorative details in one tells a story, and the cast is straight out of the history books.
David King is the owner of Motown Group properties, and “Live in the D’s” April Morton stopped by his Motown Themed Airbnb to chat about this unique vacation rental. “We just wanted to create an environment that shared that music, shared that history, and shared that story, and everybody loves it,” King said.
For about 5 years, King has been operating the Motown Airbnb located a few steps away from the Hitsville Motown Museum. This 5,000, square foot, 4 level home has 7 bedrooms, and they all have a Motown artist theme like the Smoky Robinson room, with the words “Oh Baby, Baby” written on the wall. King says everyone’s favorite is the Rick James room, “I think people liked the energy he brought,” King said.
That energy can be felt throughout the house, and is amplified by the cool décor, original memorabilia, and the historic audio devices. There are eight track players in every bedroom, jukeboxes on every floor, a record player, and they all work.
