For this week’s Music Monday, a familiar Detroit artist is back, and continues to carry on the musical legacy of her late husband, Marcus Belgrave. Joan Belgrave appeared on “Live in The D” to talk about her music and the legacy behind it.
One of the things Joan discussed when appearing on the show was The Marcus Belgrave Songbook which comes out this summer and is a remembrance of Marcus. “I always wanted to make sure that his music got out there,” she said. In this songbook, you can expect 153 pages of music, photos and text.
With the release of the songbook, there will also be a concert in honor of his legacy with some of the people he had mentored. “His music needs to be out there so that people can hear what he did,” she said.
This Friday Joan will perform at a “Dedicated Poetry Room” in Easter Market. She says the show is going to have a “Love Jones” feel to it but Detroit-style.” She previewed her upcoming show with a performance of the song “Oooo Boy”, which won the 2023 Detroit Music Awards for Best Songwriter.
