They’ve been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they have earned six Grammy nominations, they have 18 platinum and gold albums, and even earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. You might even recognize their song “Rubberband Man” being sung by the Guardians of The Galaxy in the movie Avengers: Infinity War. Ahead of their concert in Detroit, is Jessie Peck with The Spinners, who appeared on “Live in The D” to talk about their upcoming concert.
“The group formed in Ferndale back in 1954, the original members got together and the original name of the group was The Domingos,” Peck says. It wasn’t long before the name was changed, “Bobby Smith saw wheels spinning on cars and said hey we’ll change our name to The Spinners,” he says.
For him, “It’s always rewarding, it’s always wonderful. Detroit is our place to show and prove,” he says when coming back to Detroit to perform. “It’s nice to go back and continue to get the same approval from the fans and Detroit,” he says.
It is also a huge responsibility to be able to carry on the legacy of the group. “To be a Spinner, there are ways you must conduct yourself, there are certain standards that we have to uphold for our fans and for preserving The Spinners legacy,” he says.
This weekend they will be at the the Music Hall Center for Performing Arts with The Stylistics, he says “it’s going to be an exciting show, a night filled with nostalgia.” The concert is presented by Hollywood Casino at Greektown on the Music Hall Center stage.
