The NFL Draft kicks off this Thursday in Detroit and you don’t want to miss out on any of the excitement.
Executive Vice President of Visit Detroit, Dave Beachnau, and Orlando Bailey with Bridge Detroit and host of the “Authentically Detroit Podcast”, appeared on “Live in The D” to talk about the NFL Draft and what it means to Detroit.
The NFL Draft brings a huge national and international spotlight to Detroit, and while it mainly focuses on the draft, it may open up many eyes as to what Detroit it really about. “Part of the reason we bring events like this to Detroit is for the exposure it brings globally,” Beachnau said.
“I’m excited. I’ve always said that Detroit has the stage to the world, and I think this particular stage is coming at the perfect time,” Bailey said.
With the building excitement, Bailey said he is most excited for watching, “The players come out of college and high school being drafted.”. For Beachnau and his involvement in the draft, his excitement is towards, “Seeing it all come together... there is going to be so much energy in the city and so many people downtown enjoying themselves,” he said.
With the excitement of the draft, there will also be special pop up shops, arcades, a roller rink, and other things happening in downtown Detroit during the draft. While these cool things are temporary for the draft, Beachnau said, “Let’s just enjoy and embrace this moment. This is the biggest event that our community has seen in decades and, so, let’s just have a great time.”
