Lace up your skates and roll

Now could be the time to learn to roller skate

A small business is helping to spread love for roller skating in the Detroit area.

“Detroit is skating and skating is Detroit,” said Keith Walker, the owner of Roller Skate Detroit. “Our history goes back, where as the RSA, the national Roller Skating Association, started in Detroit, so we have a long history.”

Roller Skate Detroit offers skate training, skate parties, and more. “We are an inclusive group,” Walker said. He explained that you don’t even have to know how to skate. Instead he said, “Just have a good time with us.”

Roller Skate Detroit is a finalist in the Hatch Detroit competition where small businesses compete to earn a $100,000 prize to help them open a brick-and-mortar location in Detroit, Hamtramck or Highland Park. Online voting runs until May 9th, which is when the winner will be revealed.
