When she first became known across the globe she was only 10 years old and it was all thanks to her appearance on “America’s Got Talent”. She blew the judges and the world away with a powerful operatic voice that left people amazed. Now, Jackie Evancho has grow into a young woman who is embracing her past, but growing out of opera and sharing a new side of her voice. Evancho appeared on “Live In The D” to talk about her new EP Solla and to share her evolvement as a recording artist.
When speaking to moving from opera to pop Evancho said, “I learned about it from being on ‘The Masked Singer’. Because I was anonymous I was able to use this part of my voice that I never really played with before. Once I saw that I could do it, and do it kind of well, I felt that I could actually sing these songs that I write, because I would always write them in that (pop) style.”
That led to the release of Solla, Evancho’s six track EP. Evancho said that she felt like it was something she really had to do to share with her fans and grow into herself more. She wanted to share stories from her life and her hope is that a lot of people can relate to it.
The first single off the EP is called “Behind My Eyes”, and Evancho says it all goes back to time she spent alone in Nashville when she went a little stir crazy. “I wanted to write a song about the kind of feelings I was having. And so, there’s a little bit of mania in there, and a little sadness, and some anxiety,” said Evancho. “It was just sort of fun for me to put that to words.”
