In a couple of weeks, downtown Detroit will be roaring with action as the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear hits the streets. Dozens of drivers will be racing for the chance to be number one, including Indy NXT by Firestone driver Myles Rowe. He is also making history in the world of car racing. He stopped by “Live in the D” to chat about the upcoming race, and about being the first black driver to win an open wheel racing championship in North America.
“I’ve wanted this since I was a kid, it’s an honor to be in that position,” Rowe said.
He describes race car driving as being tough, and hard to handle and manage, between talking to the team and engineers, then duking it out with everyone on the track. Those are the reasons why he feels it’s a privilege to be able to succeed. Rowe has added another accomplishment to his belt by throwing out the first pitch at a Detroit Tigers game.
The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is May 31 through June 2.
