Frankenmuth is known for chicken dinners and being home to the largest Christmas store in the world, but this Memorial Day it’s all about dogs, hot air balloons and hockey.
Jamie Furbush and Brooke Huested with Frankenmuth Convention and Visitor’s Bureau appeared on “Live In The D” to share what’s planned for this holiday weekend.
One event is Balloons Over Bavarian Inn, where you can see hot air balloons fill the sky and light up the night.
“It really gets us into the spirit of summertime, especially when you have blue skies and the hot air balloons that are gracing our skies over Little Bavaria,” said Furbush, President and CEO of Frankenmuth Convention and Visitor’s Buerau. “The nightly glows too, it’s just so charming.”
Also happening this weekend is the Frankenmuth Dog Bowl. This is an Olympic style event that’s going to the dogs.
“We have a disc competition, deck dog diving, some K-9 rock ‘n’ roll, the pet parade and Weiner Dog races on Saturday,” said Huested, Director of Marketing for Frankenmuth Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
On top of these events, Frankenmuth is the local visitor host city for the 2024 Memorial Cup presented by Dow happening in Saginaw this weekend. This is for the Ontario Hockey League, and it’s the first time it’s been held in Michigan. Many of the players will go on to play in the NHL.
“There’s a really fun fan fest. They actually bring the Hockey Hall of Fame from Toronto and there’s a big display, and it’s free to the public,” said Furbush.
