Keep your white clothes from getting dingy this summer

Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan shares advice

Memorial Day is often considered the unofficial start to summer, and it’s also the time of year you might start seeing people add white into their wardrobe. However, we all know wearing white means you run the risk of your clothes becoming stained and dingy.

Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan shared some advice about how to avoid mistakes that can ruin your white clothes and some fixes too. First, Jon cautioned to be mindful of what you combine with white clothes. He explained that dark denim can stain white clothes, especially if the denim hasn’t been washed thoroughly.

Jon also stressed thinking about where you’re going to be wearing white. “If you’re going someplace where it’s like a dusty field, like maybe a music festival or something, or you’re sitting down on a park bench or a picnic table or somebody’s like really old lawn chair, that is a recipe for disaster. Think about your environment,” Jon said.

If your white clothes get dingy, Jon has a helpful hack that could do the trick. He suggests using purple shampoo to clean them. “The reason that purple shampoo is key is because when white get dingy, they tend to be yellowish. Purple shampoo neutralizes yellow. Purple and yellow neutralize one another on the color wheel.” He said not to go overboard though because you don’t want to turn your clothes lavender.
