Health and fitness advice to get you through the summer

Three things you should think about

It’s starting to feel like summer in Michigan, but have you wondered how you can stay fit and healthy through the sunshine season? Fitness and nutrition expert Jody Trierweiler stopped by “Live in the D” to let us know how.

The first point Trierweiler hit on was the sun. She made it clear that the sun is great for us but not so much for our faces. She suggests that we slather our faces in sunscreen. The more sun hitting your faces means the more likely you are to get wrinkles. The fitness and nutrition expert said that sunshine gives you vitamin D, synthesizes melatonin, increase serotonin and dopamine levels, as well as increases nitric oxide which leads to lowered blood pressure.

The next thing she talked about was sugar.

“When it comes to sugar, a little bite is alright,” said Trierweiler. Portion size is everything when it comes to sweets. However, if you’re having a cookout and you want to eat healthier, Trierweiler suggests that you bring your own food. She also says fruit is your friend because you can make so many different dishes and treats out of it so get creative.

The last tip she offered was to love yourself. The number one thing people should be doing during the summer is enjoying it, not stressing over their body image.
