Two new movies are in theaters this weekend including one with a star-studded ensemble cast, and one that is based in Michigan. Movie reviewer Greg Russell joined “Live In The D” host Tati Amare and guest-host Rob Stone, co-host of the Rob + Holly show on 99.5 WYCD, to talk about the films.
First up, Russell talked about “Ezra”. The movie is about a man who is trying to do right by his son who has autism, but the father’s actions aren’t something that everyone agrees with. The movie focuses on self-discovery, acceptance, and doing right by your child. The ensemble cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, Robert DeNiro, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Goldwyn, and many more. Russell said, “For those of us who have people who are autistic in our families, we see certain things that you see in the movie and it’s like, now everyone can see it together.” Russell gave the movie 4 out of 5 reels.
Next up, Russell reviewed the movie “Deer Camp ‘86″ which is about a group of guys from the Detroit area who go up north on a hunting trip. What should be a simple weekend turns into the men being hunted themselves. The comedy/horror movie is something that will feel familiar to people in Michigan because it is set here, but the mystery of the film is one you’ll have to see to figure out. Russell gave the movie 3 1/2 reels out of five.
