Looking for a new pet? June is Foster a Pet Month. Gillian Hanton of Michigan Humane stopped by “Live in the D” to talk about pet fostering.
Hanton brought a dog on the show named Roscott and he’s looking for a new home. Roscott is a Pitbull and Terrier mix that loves to play. Hanton mentioned that Roscott would be a great first-time dog for a new pet owner.
Hanton told us that about 40% of the animals that come into Michigan Humane’s shelter have been fostered at some point. 515 families fostered 1,900 animals in 2023 and the goal is for that number to keep growing.
She also talked about “Safety Net Fostering” which is a program where you foster another person’s animal. Hanton explained how the program is crucial to people who need a period of time to get back on their feet without their pet.
