What are the best parts of being a dad?

Fathers share fatherly experiences

Father’s Day is almost here and what better way to bring in the holiday then to get some insight on what it’s like to be a dad.

Randy “Big Randy” Henry, father of three and former “Live in the D” Floor Director joined us alongside the Executive Producer of “Live in the D” Jay Kuhlman, who’s a father of two, to give some dad advice and share some fatherly experiences.

Not too long-ago Henry’s daughter came back to his house for a bit after she had surgery. He explained how his wife was waiting on her hand and foot while Henry was so grateful to have her back in the house. To henry spending time with his kids comes first.

“You can’t buy your kids. You’ve got to spend time with them,” said Henry.

To Kuhlman being a dad is an amazing experience and he says life before them was a separate life completely.

“When you become a parent, it changes your life... You almost don’t remember what your life was like before,” said Kuhlman.

Being a dad also means using a shared excuse. Whenever Henry or Kuhlman don’t know whether to say yes or no to something their kids ask them, they pull out a variation of the phrase “ask your mother”.

However, to both Henry and Kuhlman the most important part of being a dad is to be vulnerable with your kids and supporting them through thick and thin.

Henry is hosting a free fathers Father’s Day’s basketball event at Dave Bing Park in Detroit on June 15th from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
