From music to Juneteenth celebrations there’s plenty happening this weekend in Detroit

Celebrate the Juneteenth holiday in a big way

We are just a day away from the weekend, and if you’re looking for something to do, we’ve got you covered. First up, kicking off tonight is the “Star in the Park” concert series in Farmington Hills. The event happens select Thursdays this summer, and tonight will feature the Farmington Hills Concert Band. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and a meal. The show starts at 7 p.m. at Heritage Park.

There are plenty of Juneteenth celebrations taking place throughout Southeast Michigan this weekend, including in Detroit. The Juneteenth Jubilee Weekend kicks off Friday with a block party at the Motown Museum. The event will educate the community on the importance of the holiday and how music impacts social change. This is happening from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m..

On Saturday, the celebration continues. First at the Joseph Walker Williams Community Center where health, wealth, and education will be in the spotlight from Noon to 6 p.m.. That’s followed by live musical performances in a juke joint themed setting, happening 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Batch Brewing Company.

Lastly, on Sunday the celebration will conclude with a Freedom Festival happening at Eastern Market. There will be vendors selling everything from food to clothing, live entertainment, kids activities and more. This event happens from Noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
