The Toledo Zoo welcomes three new additions

A special baby joins the animal family, while an exciting activity adds fun for all

At the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium there’s always something to experience, whether it’s the up-close encounters with over 16,000 animals or taking on the aerial adventure course.

There’s something cool around every corner, and visitors attending this year will encounter a few new additions, including an adorable one that zoo officials said is getting all the attention.

“So we’re so excited Renee finally had her baby. She had a little girl, her name is Kirka. She’s just about four months old,” said Sarah Carpenter, the Elephant Manager.

She’s talking about the new baby elephant who weighs in over 450 pounds, and gains about 10 pounds a week. After gushing over Kirka, there’s plenty more that awaits guests at the zoo.

“Right now we do have our animal feeding demonstrations and keepers talks, and animal shows in natures neighborhood,” and Jen Brassil, the Director of PR and Communications for the Toledo Zoo.

There’s even a cool new dining experience. “It’s a remodeled shipping container called Grill on the Main,” she said.

The grill offers burgers, loaded hot dogs and more.

When guests arrive to the Aerial Adventure Course located in the zoo’s African exhibit, they’ll find a new activity to conquer. In addition to the ropes course and zip lining, the zoo has added a rock climbing wall.

“It’s a two lane climbing wall that allows individuals as low as 40 pounds,” said Chris Martin, Vice President of Park Operations.

The Toledo Zoo is open year round, and in addition to the new experiences they will continue to have guests favorites this summer like free concerts and special events.
