When you pull up to the Island Grill restaurant in Fair Haven either by boat, jet ski, or vehicle, you instantly forget you’re in Michigan, and, that’s kind of the point.
“When people come, they all feel like they’re on vacation for a day, and that was the whole intent,” said Jim Elder, the owner of Island Grill.
He said his establishment is more than a restaurant, it’s an experience, and that includes getting from the parking lot which is done by a golf cart. “The ride in the golf cart up, you’ll see all the boats and water,” Elder said.
The restaurant is attached to his marina, and he said he has more than 50 boat slips for customers when they are visiting by boat.
Although the restaurant gives off party vibes, Elder said it’s a family friendly atmosphere and they even built a beach for the kiddos.
Not only does the décor of the place make you feel as though you’re in Keys of Florida, the food does as well. “The menu here is all Key West style, it’s made to make you think you’re in Florida,” said Line Cook Abigal Posey.
