One of the biggest box office openings of the year happened last week when “Inside Out 2″ hit theaters, but this weekend “The Bikeriders” is ready to cause a rumble in theaters. Movie reviewer Greg Russell joined “Live In The D” host Tati Amare in studio to talk about the film, and another independent film in theaters that’s based on a true story from Michigan.
Austin Butler and Tom Hardy are the stars of “The Bikeriders”. In the movie the two meet up as part of a motorcycle club, but Hardy’s character wants to toughen up the gang, according to Russell. “As it turns out, Austin’s (character’s) girlfriend in the movie wants him to get out, so now he’s caught in between these to worlds,” said Russell. He gave the movie four out of five reels saying that it’s very powerful and reflects feelings during the time period when the story took place.
Russell also talked about the movie “Love and Vodka”. This is a story inspired by a true story of a man from Michigan who went overseas to chase after love. The whirlwind romance leads to an adventure he never expected. The movie is directed by Heidi Philipsen-Meissner who is also from Michigan and said this is a movie, “About family. It’s about hope.” Russell gave the movie 3 1/2 reels out of five.
