Detroit City FC women’s team makes history with first playoff game

Their first playoff game is this Friday

Detroit’s women’s soccer team, Detroit City FC Women’s Team, has made history by qualifying for their first-ever playoff game. To make matters even better, they will host the match at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck this coming Friday.

Detroit City FC Striker Kayla Addison and Coach David Dwaihy appeared on “Live in the D” to talk about the approaching match.

The team has been pushing for the playoffs for years but this season everything came together. Coach Dwaihy couldn’t be happier for his players.

“I’m just delighted for the women. They put in so much hard work, they train hard and there’s a real togetherness among this group. To see them rewarded with success on the field and this opportunity in the playoffs, it’s extra special,” said Coach Dwaihy.

DCFC is a team in the central conference of the USL W. There are 80 teams in the USL W and only 16 make it to the playoffs. The league regionalizes the playoffs so only four teams make it per region. Two of the seminal matches are on Friday night, one of which is DCFC’s match against River Light FC. If Detroit wins, they’ll play at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck again on Sunday at 1 P.M.

Addison isn’t only player as she also is a coach to a couple of teams for the travel program. She loves being a player that the other soccer players can look up to. Having some of her players come and watcher play is something she really appreciates.

“Me being able to give back all of the things that I’ve learned over the years from all my different coaches...is just an amazing feeling,” said Addison.

Addison said she loves the fans and needs everyone to come out this Friday at 7 P.M. to sees DCFC’s match against River Light FC. You can find tickets on the team’s website.
