Boating on a budget

Enjoy a beloved Detroit summer pastime on the Detroit River

Summertime in Detroit means boats are out on the Detroit River. However, boating is not something that everyone can do because it can be expensive. Detroit Jetboat Adventures understood that and wanted to provide an opportunity for those who want to get out on the river or lake, but can’t afford a boat. Now you can hit the docks on a budget. Camryn Bobo, General Manager of Detroit Jetboat Adventures along with First Associate Todd Grandberry appeared on “Live in the D” to tell us all about the experience.

The family originated business allows people to rent jetboats which is a combination between a boat and a jet ski, that’s easy to operate.

“We see the demand for the waters, the river. There isn’t a lot of opportunities for people to get out on the water,” said Bobo. “We’re just trying to get everyone out of the house to have fun on the water because not everybody has a boater’s certification,” Bobo continued.

Passengers are required to have a lifejacket on board and are required to complete a 15-minute orientation to get acclimated to the water, Grandberry explained. Boater’s start in a no wake zone which is about five miles per hour. After easing into it, everyone is in for a relaxing outing.

There are four vessels to choose from, one of them being a 21-footer that holds up to 9 people and another being an 18-footer that holds up to seven people. The jetboat rentals are great for families and friends and even dates, as there’s an offering that’s just for two.
