From music to monster trucks it’s all happening this weekend in Metro Detroit

There are all kinds of events to keep you entertained

Summer is in full effect, and that means lots of events continue throughout the Metro Detroit area.

Starting today, the Uncle Sam Jam kicks off in Woodhaven. Downriver’s largest summer festival will feature live performances, a petting zoo, carnival rides, fireworks, and monster trucks. The fest runs through Sunday at Civic Center Park in Woodhaven.

In Ypsilanti Township the John E. Lawrence Summer Jazz Series beats on with some smooth sounds. The event that features local and national artists will welcome Detroit’s own, Althea Rene. The Flutist will take the stage Friday, 7 p.m. at Ford Lake Park. The series runs Fridays through August 23.

Next, whip out the blue suede shoes and head over to Belleville for the Michigan Elvis Fest. The event includes an amazing lineup of talented Elvis tribute impersonators and cover artists that are sure to thrill superfans of the legend. They will also have a beer tent, food trucks, memorabilia, vendors and more. It’s all happening Friday through Saturday at the Wayne County Fairgrounds.

Friday marks the start of the highly anticipated African World Festival. Presented by the Charles H. Wright Museum, this annual event, now in its 41st year, takes over Hart Plaza for a three day celebration. The event highlights the beauty, strength, and spirit of the African diaspora. Attendees will enjoy music, health products, and more than 125 vendors. The Fest runs Friday through Sunday.

Also this weekend, you can head to Wyandotte in search of some art. The annual Wyandotte Street Art Fair is underway with 250 artist along the streets of Wyandotte and along the waterfront. More than 30 fair food vendors will be on hand, and there will be many street performers along Biddle Ave., and there’s a children’s art area as well. The fair runs Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Downtown Wyandotte.

Lastly, over at the M-1 Concourse in Pontiac, there’s the M-1 Cycling Classic. This is a multi-lap race on a 1.5 mile closed track. The schedule covers amateur races for all skill levels and elite races for men and women. Even families can get in on the action with bike rides, mountain biking and a kids course. The event happens at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
