An out of this world rom-com takes off at the box office this weekend. Movie reviewer Greg Russell appeared on “Live In The D” to talk about the highly anticipated film “Fly Me To The Moon” and Season 1 of “Sunny”.
“Fly me to the moon” stars Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson in a comedy revolving the race to space in the 60s. “I think this one is going to fly you to the moon and just make you smile and feel happy this weekend,” said Russell. The film is set against the backdrop of the Apollo 11 landing. A Nixon White House aide sends NYC ad executive Kelly Jones (Johansson) to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to oversee a fake version of the first moonwalk on a sound stage in case the real version doesn’t pan out. Tatum plays Korean War pilot turned NASA launch director Cole Davis who, in true romantic comedy fashion, has a chemistry riddled encounter with the ad executive. Russell gives “Fly Me To The Moon” four out of five reels.
Next, Russell talks about the series “Sunny” which centers around a woman whose son and husband have disappeared in Japan. As a gift to her, she’s given an android named Sunny to help her through the hard time. “Now sunny is a little bit more,” Russell said. “It takes on the personality of people it knows and makes you wonder where did they get all this information?” Sunny is a dark comedy based on the novel, “The Dark Manual”.
Both “Fly Me To The Moon” and “Sunny”, though set in completely different decades, have you considering what’s real, what’s fake, and what’s A-I.
