Singer Nelly Furtado is back

The Grammy Award-winner talks new album and single

Global pop icon, Nelly Furtado appeared on “Live in the D” to discuss her big comeback after four years away from the music business.

With a Grammy Award, 20 billion streams, and 35 million albums sold, fans of the “I’m Like A Bird” singer/songwriter have been patiently waiting for a new record. Ahead of the full album, titled 7, Furtado has released a single “Corazon”.

She says, “I worked on it for a couple of years. I’m so proud of it. I think a lot of people know me for my fusion of different styles and a really international sound. I tried to bring some different things together.”

Furtado decided to put out her seventh album because of the fans. Younger generations are discovering her music, and fans that have been around over twenty years continue to play her music. She felt it was time to get back in the studio.

The title 7 stems from this being her seventh studio album and seven years since her last album.

When asked why she is putting out new music now Furtado said, “The industry called me back. DJ’s started remixing my old songs over and over and over again. and then on TikTok I kept hearing my songs in different ways. It was inspiring.”

Furtado also credits industry friends like Drake for encouraging her to perform on stage again. He brought her out during a recent show in Toronto. Now a mom of three, she says she had to rediscover the music in her and emphasizes that, “Whatever you love to do. Whatever your passion is. Don’t drop it. Get back into it and follow the spark as best as you can.”
