Detroit’s Concert of Colors is back in action

The free festival runs through Sunday in Detroit

Music artists from around the world will descend on Detroit this week for the annual Concert of Colors. The event’s Executive Director and President Ismael Ahmed, and Multi-Grammy Award-winner Don Was, who is the President of Blue Note Records, stopped by “Live in the D” to chat about the fest.

“It’s a Detroit party. It’s a multi-cultural party. It brings the people of Detroit together,” Ahmed said.

He described the fest as a family event, with food, dance lessons, concerts, live entertainment and more. Best of all, it’s all free. The week of events will feature a Caribbean festival, with costumes, Soca bands, and more. There will also be bands from Haiti and Zimbabwe.

Concert of Colors runs today through Sunday at various cultural institutions throughout Detroit.
