The opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympic Games is tomorrow and that would make it a good time to learn about some surprising people who are connected to the Olympics. Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan appeared on “Live in the D” to talk about some people with ties to the Olympic Games.

The first person Jordan mentioned, who is associated with the Olympic Games, comes from Hollywood. Esther Williams, a competitive swimmer, missed the 1940 Olympic Games because of World War II. She went on to be a movie star who was able to show off her swimming skills in some box office hits.

The next group of people he mentioned are models, from movies and from media. Jason Statham is from the UK, and he almost made the diving team. Geena Davis, following her career as a movie star, excelled in archery and was close to making the team. Model and actor Dolph Lundgren was a team leader for the Pentathlon team in 1996. The fashion designer Vera Wang almost made it to the Olympics in figure skating. Bella Hadid was a member of the equestrian team. Lastly for this category, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss were also in the Olympics.

When it comes to musical roots, Jackson Wang was a saber fencer who came close to making it to the Olympics. Cody Simpson is a competitive swimmer and almost made the team for Australia. Jessica Springsteen made the equestrian team. Finally, there is Liam Payne who was a track and field star who also almost made it to the Olympics.
