When it comes to Girl Scouts, your first thought may be cookies, but there’s so much more happening. CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, Monica Woodson, joined “Live in the D” host Tati Amare to talk more about the new Girl Scout experience and why now is the perfect time to sign up.
Woodson said the new Girl Scout celebrates the work the program has done over the last one hundred and ten years while also representing what the girls of today are all about. Girls are learning to code, learning about democracy and advocacy work, sailing, and the list goes on.
Woodson also talked about the common misconceptions people have when it comes to Girl Scouts. “I think the biggest misconception is that cookies is all we do,” said Woodson. And, even though the cookies are still a big part of the organization, girls are also learning leadership skills, going on adventures, and taking steps to change the world.
She also stated if you want to get involved, being a troop leader is only one way. There are many other volunteer and mentorship opportunities available.
